THE ACCOLADES keep on coming for Highbank Orchards and their organic Highbank Orchard Syrup. Produced by Julie and Rod Calder-Potts just out the road from me in Kilkenny, their apple syrup is certainly Ireland’s answer to maple syrup and its growing popularity is no wonder they have been named Kilkenny Food Producer of the Year as part of the proceedings at Savour Kilkenny this weekend gone.
If you have yet to try their Orchard Syrup, don’t worry about what you can combine it with – it goes well with pretty much everything. It’s an ever-present in my own kitchen and I’ll happily testify that it goes great with porridge in the morning, ice cream at night (and is now part of the Christmas dessert since the product first launched), cheese and crackers and more besides.
