So Sligo Food & Culture Festival
10-14 June, SoSligo.ie
I’ve managed to recitfy my failed intentions of getting to the fatherland in years past by booking myself in for Só Sligo this year, the festival getting underway on 10 June and running until the 14th.
There’s a two day programme of talks, tastings and discussions in the Factory Performance space at Quay Street looking at artisan beer making, tastings with local food heroes, raw food, a pop-up fermentation bar, a look at Irish seaweeds and more besides. Galway’s Aniar returns to The Model with a pop up restaurant, there’s a cookery book swap, the World Irish Stew Championship and you’ll find lots of local bars and eateries weighing in with music and food offers across the weekend.
Taste Of Dublin
11-14 June, TasteOfDublin.ie
With Electrolux back as title sponsors again for 2015, it’s a big year for Taste Of Dublin with the Iveagh Gardens hosting the 10th Taste Of Dublin event bringing with it a wealth of large and medium-sized producers, big brands and big name chefs. It’s not the cheapest event to attend by any means but the demos and talks are always worth a look and you can eat on the move from some of Dublin’s top restaurants.
Some of the chefs on board this year include Derry Clarke, Mark Moriarty, Oliver Dunne, Fiona Uyema, Edward Hayden, Michel Roux Jr., Neven Maguire, Ross Lewis, Paul Kelly and Monica Galetti.
Having seen Taste in the height of sun and the depths of rain, it’s definitely recommended to dress for the weather of the moment.
Meet The Brewers @ Cooks Academy
15 June, CooksAcademy.com
After a great initial evening with the Real Bread Ireland bakers on 27 April, Biabeag is on the move to Dublin and Cooks Academy again, this time chatting to 3 brewers.
Some of the many topics up for discussion will be Sláinte (The Complete Guide to Irish Craft Beer & Cider), nitro stout and setting up a brewery in 2015 while in a panel format, Keith’s going to be chatting to Caroline Hennessy (8 Degrees), Barry O’Neill (O’Brother Brewing) and Daire Harlin (Brú Brewery).
Listowel Food Fair
18-21 June, ListowelFoodFair.ie
The Listowel Food Fair marks its 21st year this month. At a glance, the programme in Listowel includes a Publicans v Traders cook-off, a local food trail with tastings, pop-up restaurants, a 7-course gourmet celebration dinner, food photography workshop, baking workshops and a foraging event on the Sunday.
There’s other competitions running over the weekend (and some pre-festival) but a weekend in Kerry – if you can make it – should be one for the books. The drive to Listowel, the scenery, the whole lot could make for a cracking weekend.
Feile an Phráta
27-28 June, via Facebook
Celebrate all that the potato has to offer in Dingle over one weekend this month. The Sunday plays home to An Spud-off Mór will mark the completion of Féile an Phráta with the Grand Final (An Craobh Mór) where up to 10 potato growers from across the Dingle Peninsula will compete for the title of Champion Grower or ‘Laoch an Phráta’.
