Bake Fest Galway is happening this weekend
I love Galway. I’ve said to myself for years that if I wasn’t living in Kilkenny, I’d choose Galway. Equally, I’ve got a love for baking – or at least for fresh bread and baked goods.
So, if you’re inclined to marry the two (both Galway and baking) then you’ll find the third annual Bake Fest, happening at Leisureland this weekend, right up your street.
It’s a two-day jam-packed (pun very much intended) affair that celebrates everything baking and cake decorating while this year’s theme of Irish Baking lends itself to an exploration of real bread and Irish food producers.
The rise of real bread (again, pun very much intended) will also be explored at one of the Meet The Producers sessions at this year’s Savour Kilkenny (tickets to give away to that one tomorrow).
As they say themselves…
Bake Fest 2015 will see the festival going back to our roots with an emphasis on Irish baking, Irish Producers and Real Bread. Home baking has gained momentum in recent years with many turning back to baking daily bread as was once a daily staple in every household. Using local producers, scouring hedge rows with the kids for fruit and knowing where our ingredients come from is an integral part of baking. For me, our kitchen was always the engine of our home, the driving force alongside my mother and grandmother for my love of baking and food. Bake Fest 2015 will be a celebration of those traditions, recipes and people who inspired you to furnish your apron and step into the role of baker to continue those traditions and skills passed down for generations.
