When I mentioned on Twitter last night that we really do have some kickass restaurants in Kilkenny, that may have been before Campagne continued its winning streak since the its doors opened locally, by being named Best Restaurant in Ireland at last night’s Irish Restaurant Awards or “the food oscars”.
Earlier in the night, Campagne had been named Best Restaurant (regional) for Leinster alongside Ox (Antrim, Ulster), 1826 Adare (Limerick, Munster), An Port Mór (Mayo, Connaught) and Dax Restaurant (Dublin).
Kilkenny picked up two Michelin star awards in September last year, one each for Campagne and The Lady Helen at Mount Juliet.
Continuing the success for Kilkenny on the night, The Lady Helen also picked up an award for Best Hotel Restaurant (regional) for Leinster with The Restaurant at Belleek Castle (Mayo, Connaught), The Cellar Restaurant at Merrion Hotel (Dublin), The Dining Room at Gregan’s Castle Hotel (Clare, Munster) and Newforge House (Armagh, Ulster) also winning in the regional categories. The overall winner though went to The Lady Helen at Mount Juliet.
So we do have some kick ass restaurants in Kilkenny, who continue to kick ass on the national scene as well and it’s nice knowning that for a year anyway, Campagne and The Lady Helen will be celebrated as the Best Restaurant in Ireland and the Best Hotel Restaurant in Ireland respectively under the Irish Restaurant Awards.
