It’s finally here. Kicking and screaming like the bold child that it is, 2014 has opened its doors and a world of food awaits.
Hell, a world of change and new opportunities await.
2013 was a good year for getting out and about. Not so much for the detailing of it as I would have liked, but here’s to improving on that again in 2014. There were loads of new restaurants and eateries tried, new adventures in the kitchen, new recipes, new ingredients and more.
This year has a little bit of a plan to it though, which should make 2014 a great year for food for me personally.
For the rest of us, it’s also a great year to celebrate food. Artisan production in Ireland has never been higher. There are new food producers coming on board, food development plans for towns, cities and counties rolling out. It’s a whole new year of food festivals and events (and don’t forget to submit yours too). We’ll have plenty of reason to celebrate.
My First Change
My first change that brings new opportunities is getting married. This Saturday, three years after she said “yes”, which I translated from “you’re fucking kidding me?” Mrs Any Given Food-to-be becomes Mrs Any Given Food. That in itself brings new food adventures, the first of which takes us to London in two weeks time for some exploration.
My Food Resolutions?
Eat more. Cook more. Bloody we’ll write more and soak it all up.
That much I can focus on locally and time permitting this year (with wedding planning, saving, touring and other things out of the way for the most part) I’ll get to more events as well and I’m looking forward to making new connections.
What About You?
Starting a new food business in 2014 or finally breaking out of the home kitchen and onto the High Street? If you are, I’d love to hear about it. I’ll shortly be looking for food folks for a series of recorded interviews so if you’ve got a story to tell, I’ll have a platform to help tell it, but more on that in due time.
If you’ve got an event or festival you’re taking part in or running, email me directly to email@example.com to get in on the listings (which get an overhaul from today). You can always find me on Facebook here or via @anygivenfood on Twitter.
This Is Where It Begins
A new day, a new month, a brand new year. Let’s be thankful for what we’ve got and take the opportunities presented to is this year by the scruff of the neck. Go eat more, drink more, cook more, photograph more, read more, converse more, share more. Let’s embrace 2014, enjoy the ride and have a ball along the way.
Happy New Year!
