Foodie Roundup #35 - September 18th to 24th. The photo above is the Duck Terrine starter from Source Sligo, you'll find it on my Foodspotting profile.
Today’s Foodie Roundup, the 35th overall, comes to you between a head cold and the Ireland v Russia game in the Rugby World Cup. We’ve got the bonus point anyway if you’re reading this very early, so that’s the main thing. Anywhoo, here’s ten blog posts from other Irish food bloggers that you may have missed this past week.
- Supermarket Wine Bargains – Out Of Control? via Free Running Wine Blog
- Wild Damsun Plums with Tofu Banana Cheese Cake via Veggies And Me
- A Nice Irish Breakfast via Mammy’s Kitchen
- Healthier Banana Bread via Maple Spice
- The Last Supper via Peachy Palate
- Orange And Lemon Polenta Cake via The Katz Miaow
- Pasta Tuesday: Crispy Slow-Roasted Tomato Pasta via I Can Has Cook?
- An Irish Hedgerow Harvest via Warm & Snug & Fat
- Cream of Fennel Soup with Honey and Thyme (Fennel a subject of discussion in Chez McGuire earlier this week) via Edible Ireland
- Competition: Win a trip to Salon du Blog in France via Irish Food Bloggers Association
Going back to the headcold, likely something I picked up on the bike having cycled from Kilkenny to Sligo this weekend (Kilkenny to Athlone on Friday, Athlone to Sligo yesterday), if anyone has any suggestions for fixes or remedies, I’ve a press here full of garlic, honey, random herbs, spirits, the lot. Will end up playing a right witch doctor later on to clear my head and chest.
Hope your Sunday isn’t as bunged up as mine!

Thanks for including the fennel soup recipe – although with all this talk of an Indian summer, it looks like I was wrong to give up on summer so soon!
You’re most welcome. No sign of an Indian summer today anyway, torrential rain since the wee hours but you could be in for it next week, at least until the snow is supposed to hit the week after
Hi Ken, Thanks for including my Orange & Polenta Cake in the Foodie Roundup. Delighted to be included.
You’re most welcome! It’s gone on the list to try at home
That duck terrine is to die for! Also the goats cheese salad. YUMS.
Hello Ken, has anyone noticed that the terrine is not a terrine. Forgive me but I pay attention to detail, I think it’s more likely a ballontine than a terrine.a terrine refers to the loaf type mould that it’s cooked in, where as a ballontine is a sausage like roll that’s normally poached and usually served warm or cold.
Thanks for the mention! Happy to be home and enjoying healthy nutritious delicious food again – I missed my overnight oats! Made up for it this morning with Vegan Blueberry Granola Crunch Overnight Oats Parfait! Hope the cycle went well!
Thank you for the mention, you are a scholar and a gentleman!
