August cometh once again, the weekend is upon us, the summer weather has kind of disappeared, but there’s still loads to come in terms of Irish food events and festivals this year, and this month. - 4 August: August Summer Barbeques at Wells House
The last of the summer’s sunday First Sunday Summer BBQs with archery, a falconry display, woodland walk, playground and crafts at Wells House & Gardens in Gorey, Co. Wexford.
- 8-11 August: Carlingford Oyster Festival
This year’s festival runs Thursday 8th to Monday 12th August in Carlingford, Co. Louth and again featurs the “Morgan’s Fine Fish Carlingford Oyster Pearl” competition. A festival street street market runs all day Saturday and Sunday along with walking tours, water activities, sailing, an oyster eating competition and loads more.
- 21 August: Virginia Show
This year is the 72nd Virginia Show in Virgina, Co. Cavan. There’s over 3,000 exhibits alongside food markets, childrens entertainment, trade stands, demos, music, dancy and more. A “gathering of all that is good in food, farming and rural Ireland”.
- 23 August: Irish Chef’s World Culinary Challenge (Part of Carlow 800)
Taking place during the Carlow 800 celebrations, this competition is aimed at chefs working outside of Ireland, who are Irish or have Irish ancestry, but the competition is open to all chefs both home and abroad. More on this to follow…
- 23-25 August: A Taste of Donegal Food Festival
This year’s festival kicks off at 4pm on the Friday, the first event being the live cookery school with the Young Taste Of Donegal Chef of the Year 2013. Music and cookery demonstrations tie Friday together with a Fireworks display on Friday night. Across Saturday and Sunday then you’ve got two full days of demos, tastings, masterclasses, traders and loads more, all as a way to discover what Donegal has to offer when it comes to food and dirnk.
- 23-25 August: Doolin Irish Craft Beer and Food Festival
Featuring craft brewers all around Ireland, some of Clare’s best musicians along with food from local arisan producers. It’s all marquee based, with admission €10. Your admission also gets you a commemorative Craft Beer Festival glass to take home.
