Savour Kilkenny Kicks Off Today

Savour Kilkenny 2012

THE OCTOBER bank holiday weekend is upon us all over again which means the sixth annual Savour Kilkenny Festival of Food gets underway today.

Technically, the events got underway yesterday with a kids agri-tour and a Game and Burgundy evening at Campagne but events kick off in earnest this evening before we really get into the swing of things in Kilkenny from Friday and right through the weekend.

You can get a look at the entire festival schedule at a glance here.

The big one for me on Friday is Foodcamp, which I’ve got a hand in again this year. The Kilkenny Ormonde Hotel is the venue for Foodcamp this year, the unconference for food lovers taking place from 9am to 5pm tomorrow (Friday). The online registration will be closing shortly so if you haven’t signed up already, you can do so for free over at Foodcamp.ie. It’s a full day event, it’s all talk about food and there’s a giant picnic lunch in the middle of it all – if you’re coming along, you’re urged to bring something for yourself and to share, that’s part of the fun of it all.

Across the weekend then there’s a host of big names, cookery demos, trails, restaurant specials, traders, chefs and more all making their home on the Parade when the food stalls and demo tents open up for Saturday and Sunday but all around Kilkenny city and county there will be loads happening, all food related, right up to Bank Holiday Monday.

And, if you’re in Kilkenny on Saturday night and fancy something a bit different, the Devious Theatre Company are doing a screening of Night Of The Living Dead in Cleere’s from 8pm on Saturday night followed by a dead disco – time to dress up like a zombie and get down.

Take a look at SavourKilkenny.com for all the detail and if you’re around this weekend, drop me a line or find me and say hello.
